Public awareness initiatives
Krousar Thmey undertakes public awareness campaigns to promote special needs education within the local population. The objective is to inform families, to convince the children who attend of the importance of education and to change people’s attitude towards disability. To achieve this, different events are organised throughout the year.

The awareness campaigns seem to be an excellent communication tool in Cambodia. Stage performances are performed in remote areas by deaf children dancing to music played by blind children. Tragicomic scenes of daily life reinforce the basic message being put across about education and disability. The event always attracts a large crowd: between 300 and 1000 people at each performance. Displays that can be understood by all, caps and other promotional gifts are handed out to the crowds to spread the message and to make even more people aware of our work. As well as promoting special needs education, these travelling shows allow children to develop self-confidence and make it easier for them to meet new people outside of the organisation.

Krousar Thmey is also involved in citizenship events and organises travelling and permanent exhibitions about special needs education and disability.
