Sign language committee
Specialist education for deaf children requires adapted language tools and teaching methods. Since 1997 the Committee has been developing Cambodian Sign Language. Today its eight members work daily to improve it and are responsible for adapting textbooks from the Ministry of Education’s curriculum for deaf children. The pupils use textbooks published by Krousar Thmey and the ones provided by the Ministry for Education. The adapted textbooks introduce new signs relating to the lesson being studied and allow the children to comment on new topics.

Each week several committee members visit the studios of two national television channels, TVK and Bayon TV, to record the main television news that are broadcast every day in sign language. This initiative helps to raise public awareness within the Cambodian people and understand the foundation’s work in the country.

As part of these activities the committee has also produced a Khmer sign language dictionary to encourage learning, which is available online in Khmer, English and French.
