Tonle Sap: Source of Lives
|
Aquatic plants Aquatic species live in stagnant or calm waters. They usually flower quickly at the end of the wet season. Plants rooted in the soil inhabit shallow areas near the shores of Tonle Sap. On the contrary, floating plants have adapted to this environment and developed floaters. They move with the current, but rarely go beyond the flooded forest zone. |

Bushes and trees Bushes and trees have hard "stems." They are rooted in sool and blossom at different times of the year. Most of the bushes are totally submerged by water during the rainy season, while the tops of tall trees usually rise above the surface. Both bushes and trees have adapted to the aquatic environment by becoming somewhat dormant during the wet season and then reawakening when the water recedes. [next] |
