Dear Friends,
“Pour l’enfance cambodgienne, agir et transmettre”. This is the title we have chosen for the new book which traces the history of Krousar Thmey, from 1991 to July 2024, the last school audit. It takes up much of my first book, “A Humanitarian in Cambodia”, but is completed by the story of all the steps that had to be worked out to get the idea of transferring the schools accepted by the Cambodian government and carried out in July 2019. You’ll understand what made it possible to change the way disabled people are viewed, to get Cambodians to take ownership of the schools, and to set up structures within the Ministry of Education’s administration. Written in collaboration with Auray AUN, former Director of Krousar Thmey Cambodia and current President of Krousar Thmey France, this book aims to share our experience, particularly the ideal of all good development NGOs, but one that too few put into practice: that of transmission.
The book was published in November by Magellan & Cie, and is available in many bookshops. If you’d like a signed version by one of us, please let us know, and we’ll send it to you for 21 euros (postage included for France). Please leave me a message at +33 0630158000.
Having been in Cambodia for the past few days, I’ve been able to see the good work done by our teams around Darong CHOUR despite the context of a country that COVID has left its mark on. Tourism has not yet fully recovered, many investment projects have come to a standstill, many Cambodians are still in a very precarious situation, the dry season and lack of water have severely impacted harvests, etc. In short, although there has been a marked improvement since 2000, there is still a long way to go.
Your help is therefore always welcome to support children living on the streets or from poor families, and young people with disabilities, to give them a real chance of a future, like the young people I sometimes come across during my visits and who call out to me with emotion.
Thank you for continuing to be at our side, and I wish you all a Merry Christmas with your families.
